Grand Forks Fall Fair 2010

The first Fall Fair held here in Grand Forks was 100 years ago .. that made this year's a special one.

This year's Fair was different from years gone by because it was early (in August not September)
and it started on a Friday and ended on Saturday

So the parade was not until the second day ... but we still got it on video.

Any Fall Fair has judged competitions ... and awards. Here's the ceremonies from this year's fair:

For those of you who didn't make it here is a quick walk through ... and a few visits.

Since it's been 100 years since the first Fall Fair was held in Grand Forks, representatives from every level of government showed up. The provincial Minister for Agriculture came to award us. Want to know who said what? Watch and listen in ...

And last but not least ... our WhatsUpGF show was shot at the Fair. And we drafted the Fall Fair president, Irene, to talk to us on camera :) So watch, enjoy and learn a bit of Fall Fair history.

The Elks Lodge #493 pancake breakfast was held at the Grand Forks Fall Fair at Dick Bartlett park near the Curling Club, on Aug. 27 and 28.

Donations were accepted for the Elks and Royal Purple Children's Fund with those entered being eligible for a draw of one of three gift certificates.  It was another successful fundraiser and awareness event with approximately 200 plus meals being served for the two days.

Many thanks to the local businesses who donated gift certificates, Elks members, volunteers, fall fair organizers, and those who supported this worthwhile cause by purchasing a very affordable and filling meal!  Local children and beyond are helped with receiving hearing devices or other assistance as required, other individuals or groups requests are considered if funds are available and it fulfills helping youth or young adults.

2010 has been a busy year with many pancake breakfasts, Mother's Day, Grand Forks ATV Club, Canada Day & Grand Forks Fall Fair.  The Elks has donated soccer balls and baseball uniforms to local teams, plus a financial donation to Mischa Popoff, MS patient, for surgery.

The Elks meetings are held the first Tuesday of the month at 7:30pm with a break for July & August.  Our first meeting for the 2010 - 2011 season will happen on Sept. 7th with the installation of officers.  If you'd like to attend a meeting as a guest or want more information on how to join as a member contact Cliff PH:250-442-2895 or Shawna PH:250-442-4276.
